Changeling

Changelings are small and incredibly rare humanoids. They have the remarkable ability to take on the form of any race they choose. They live isolated lives, and rarely make themselves known as Changelings. Most of the more common races would not even be aware of their existence, though many have unwittingly met one. Changelings shift their appearance to hide their true self from the untrustworthy and easily manipulated others. Not even a Changeling knows the origin of Changelings. They simply exist. One day they find themselves alive and alone with no memory of what may have come before. Especially when they have only just begun existing, their behavior may be read by those around them as… strange. They quickly adapt, however, and learn to fit in with any culture necessary.

Culture: Changelings have no culture, only instinct. The two primary instincts are to protect themselves by hiding their identity, and a strong distrust and aversion of all other Changelings. They can almost always identify one another due to this instinct. Though they cannot know for certain, they’ll feel an urge to get away from that person. They’ll just know. Beyond these instincts, the Changeling has a natural aptitude towards fitting in.

Troll

Physical Description

Trolls are gigantic creatures that have little in common with human appearance while still being humanoid.  From head to toe trolls are covered in a thick bark like skin that matches the bark of trees in their habitat and have small radiant green eyes.  A troll’s nose and ears are nothing but holes where a human’s would be. Their hair is more akin to a mane of moss that acts the part of hair. Trolls are thorough creatures and as such other races have labeled them slow.  Their movements seem odd to the other races in its sluggishness and the way it doesn't seem to effect the environment as theirs do. Their height as described below is the tops of their heads. However, trolls often have branches that extend beyond this height up to several feet.

  • Height - 7'4"-8'6"

  • Weight - Ranges from 350-600 lbs.

  • Size - Large

  • Skin Tone - Bark like skin that matches the tree's in their habitat.

  • Hair - Trolls hair is a moss like substance that covers their heads and drapes their shoulders and upper backs.

  • Eye Color - Radiant Green

  • Lifespan - Trolls live as long as the type of tree they resemble.

  • Masculine Names - Kor, Koa, Ako, Olkin

  • Feminine Names - Ilka, Neeka, Kallea

Culture - Trolls do not really have a culture in the same sense the other races do.  A troll is born alone and quickly grows into an enormous, slow moving creature that wanders it's forest.  Once a Troll reaches maturity it is filled with an unnatural urge to protect its home from the ravages of the smaller races.  This urge has led Trolls to many violent confrontations with other races and thus, has left them labeled by most malign guardians of the forests.

Gnome

Physical Description

Culture - Gnomish culture is brilliant and eccentric. They fill their tiny cities with gaudy and shiny decoration to try and relieve their ever present boredom. Due to their vast intellect gnomes have an insatiable curiosity for all things unknown. This combination of intelligence, boredom, and curiosity has led the tiny creatures to make breakthroughs in the areas of creation and magic that far surpass all the other races. As the Gnomes delved deeper into these unknown realms of magic and science it permeated their culture and became an integral part of their society. Rituals and repetition are the norm in a Gnomes life, allowing them to focus their ever wandering and inquisitive minds.

Elf

Physical Description

Elves are overwhelmingly beautiful, tall and lithe humanoids.  An Elf has ears much the same as a human with a slight point at the top, this fits in with their sharp cheekbones and arched brows.  An Elves grace can be uncanny to behold and to most races it seems unnatural the way an elf glides about effortlessly disturbing nothing it passes.  They rarely sleep and as such have grown accustomed to using their eyes at night and thus can see just as well as during the day.

  • Height - Female: 5'10"-6'10" Male: 5'10"-6'10"

  • Weight - Female: 110-180 lbs Male: 110-180 lbs

  • Size - Normal

  • Skin Tone - Elves are generally fair skinned with an extremely slight luminescence.

  • Eye Color - Rich Greys, Bold Greens, or awe-inspiring blues.  Elven eye's have a faint glow about them.

  • Lifespan - Elves do not age and die when they choose.

Culture - Elven culture is an ancient and enlightened one.  Their lack of aging and secluded nature has allowed them to individually pursue that which interests them most.  These passions and the time to study them has made the elves masters of every area of study and craft. Boasting the finest craftsmen, scholars, theologians, musicians, and warriors one might wonder why the elves aren't more of a factor in the vying of the other races, simply put elves are for the most part unconcerned with the other races.  The knowledge the elves hold sets them apart from the other races, and makes them seem uncaring, distant, and even cold.

Dwarf

Physical Description

Dwarves are powerful, squat and hardy creatures, nearly as broad as they are tall.  Dense muscle and even denser bones make them among the most resilient of the Seven races, but it also gives them quite a fear of water.  Dwarves have very strong and hard facial features almost always covered in a thick beard of red or brown. Their large eye's accustomed to the dark offer them vision in even the blackest of dungeons.

  • Height - 3'6"-4'0"

  • Weight - 140-225 lbs

  • Size - Normal

  • Skin Tone - Generally light skinned due to their time spent underground.

  • Hair - Rich and thick hair is generally worn long and for the most part unkempt.  Dwarves almost always wear a beard that matches their hair color, due to the lower temperatures of living in stone.

  • Eye Color - Darker shades of grey, green, and brown.

  • Lifespan - Dwarves can live upwards of 600 years.

Culture - Honorable and greedy, the powerful and squat dwarves flaunt a culture of trade.  Preferring to live beneath mountains the dwarves rarely run into squabbles over land and thus seldom war with the other races.  Almost all dwarves share a great sense of kinship with one another and as such fighting between dwarven kingdoms is also rare. This lack of "warring" has allowed the dwarves to focus on those things they love most, crafting and trade.  Dwarves are second only to elves in craftsmanship and not by much, and are second to none when it comes to trade. This combination of superior supply and an overwhelming demand by the kingdoms of other races has allowed most dwarven kingdoms to build staggering sums of wealth.  Their greed is the one thing that occasionally brings them into the wars of others. Many greedy and jealous leaders of other nations have tried to squander a dwarven kingdoms wealth, most have found that a dwarves lack of warring has not diminished their fierceness and intensity at defending their homes and have left bloodied and battered.  Yet a few powerful kingdoms have had varying degrees of success with campaigns against dwarven kingdoms.

Orc

Physical Description

Orcs are a powerfully built race of grotesque looking humanoids.  Their generally hunched backs and shoulders keep them on average shorter than humans, but their dense, powerful muscles lend them more weight.  An Orcs face is almost always terrifying, with small beady red or yellow eyes sunk into prominent brows and short wicked tusks protruding from fearsome snarls.

  • Lifespan  - Orcs have the shortest lifespan of the races, with the average Orc living 40 years.

Culture - Most think Humans are the most populace race of Hematoben and when it comes to "civilized" population they’re right, but Orcs, with their always warring, savage and nomadic tribes out number humans by a significant margin.  An Orc culture is that of battle. War is ever present among the Orcs. Their typically short tempers and, in many parts of Hematoben, over population leads to constant squabbling between differing tribes. Not only do Orcs war amongst themselves but they view the other races as weak and soft and therefore many Orc tribes find themselves warring with kingdoms of other races.  Many of the races have taken note of the Orcs aptitude for battle and hired them as elite mercenary bands to fight their wars for them. This constant life of war yields an extremely adept and battle hardened race that thrives on chaos.

Their cultures range from the savage and nomadic tribes that live much as Orcs do to the richest merchant guilds and kingdoms that are on Hematoben.
